The Georgia Davis Fund for Research in Glioblastoma

The Davis Family (Georgia, Tom, and Carey) is pleased to establish the Georgia Davis Fund for Research in Glioblastoma at UT Southwestern Medical Center. This fund will support ground-breaking research discoveries to help ensure future glioblastoma patients will have more effective treatment options and improved quality of life and survivorship.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to create this fund for research that will one day improve the journey and lives of others who face this devastating diagnosis,” said Georgia Davis.

This fund will help to advance the research endeavors of an amazing team of physicians and clinical scientists who are deeply dedicated to pursuing better and more effective options for glioblastoma patients. Their innovative research requires significant funding from multiple sources and philanthropic gifts play an impactful role in advancing their work.

“We have been very impressed with the medical care and personal attention Georgia has received throughout her relationship and treatment at UTSW. We know this fund will make a meaningful difference in others’ lives,” said Tom Davis.

Led by Elizabeth Maher, M.D., Ph.D. and Robert Bachoo, M.D., Ph.D., the neuro-oncology laboratory team pursues multidisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical brain tumor-related research. They regularly contribute to the world’s understanding of the fundamental mechanisms that drive malignant brain tumors with a major emphasis on developing accurate brain tumor models for further study.

The Maher-Bachoo team pioneered intra-operative metabolic tracer studies for tracking tumor metabolism and contributed to the overturning of an 80-year-old dogma about how brain tumors fuel their growth. They identified novel clinical imaging biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. The team continues to develop new strategies for the safe and reversible disruption of the blood-brain-barrier to enable effective drug delivery for the benefit of glioblastoma patients.

We are grateful to all who join us in the fight against glioblastoma.
